Every year ATRES publishes 'The Scottish Journal of Religious Education'. This contains material from the annual ATRES conference as well as papers on a variety of areas connected with RME. The Journal also contains material for use in the classroom and offers the opportunity for people to contribute reviews of books and other teaching materials. It is hoped that soon a regular e-letter will also published to keep teachers up to date with developments in RME.

ATRES has also produced 4 videos for classroom use and these are available at a cost of £10.00 per video (price includes postage and packing).

The 4 videos are:

  1. The Church in Scotland: This was the first video that ATRES made and it is presented by TV presenter Sheena McDonald. It examines aspects of Christianity in Scotland including church buildings and furnishings, worship and rites of passage. It is split into 3 main parts and key words used are highlighted during the viewing. The video concludes by showing how the Church in Scotland fits into the world-wide church. This video is suitable for S1- 4 classes and also upper primary. (This video is now not available)

  1. Religious Communities: This video is also presented by Sheena McDonald and it examines some aspects of life within religious communities in Scotland. The first section explores worship within Hinduism, Judaism and Sikhism. The second section concentrates on Christianity and Islam and looks at how these faiths are lived out in the lives of two boys who attend the same school. The final section has the two boys speaking about their commitment to their faith. The video is suitable for S1 - 4 classes and also upper primary.

  2. Religious Communities 2: This video is presented by Shereen Nanjiani and it looks at life in Jewish and Hindu communities in Scotland. It covers such areas as worship in the home and in the synagogue/temple as well as looking at rites of passage for children. The video is suitable for S1 - 4 classes and also upper primary.

  3. The Big Questions: This ATRES video production looks at the area of ultimate questions. Its 3 sections are: How did it all begin? ; Why do we suffer? ; What happens when we die? The content of the video is presented in such a way that other linked questions arise as the main areas are looked at. The video makes good usage of TV footage, pupils contributions and a good link person. This video is suitable for S1 - 4 classes and its content could be well used in the SQA courses 'Questioning Belief' and 'The Nature of Belief'. Parts of the video could also be used in upper primary.
